What is Cedars Classical Co-Op?
-
Parent/Volunteer-Led – We are a group of like-minded parents coming together to guide our children in a shared community setting. There is no tuition, no paid administration, no school of any kind, and no formal entity — just families sharing time, talent, and resources.
-
Not an Organization or Institution – Cedars does not process payments, issue transcripts, or operate as any kind of school. Each family remains fully responsible for their own children’s learning and records.
-
Core Days – We gather Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, for shared, in-person guidance time. All families agree to follow the same program and stay on the same pace so children are working in sync.
-
Participation Requirement – At least one parent from each family must actively serve in some role.
-
If you cannot be present personally, you must send a capable substitute/proxy (grandparent, tutor, nanny, babysitter, etc.) who can actively assist the whole group — not just your own children. This person must be prepared to do necessary prep work (reviewing materials, planning activities, etc.) and fully engage during the day.
-
All regular parent participants and all proxy participants are required to complete Safe environment training and comprehensive background check through our parish and Eparchy. This is mandatory for the safety of our children and the integrity of our community.
-
Parents and “proxy parents” interact with and support all children present, not only their own.
-
-
Flex Day (Optional) – Wednesdays, 10:30 AM–2:00 PM, offering shared activities such as art, physical games, and languages.
-
Shared Mission – A faith-filled, classical environment rooted in truth, goodness, and beauty — growing together as one community.
Need a Parent Proxy?
If you wish to join Cedars but cannot serve personally, you can arrange for a “parent proxy” to participate in your place. Proxies are hired and paid directly by you (Cedars does not hire or pay them). We recommend looking for Christian or Catholic-friendly candidates where possible, though this is not required.
Important: All parent proxies must complete Safe environment training and comprehensive background check through our parish and Eparchy before their first day of service. This requirement applies to all adult participants in the co-op.
Big Tip:
If you’ve registered with a charter school, check their approved vendor list for tutors, nannies, or guides. Many are pre-approved to receive charter funds for hourly payment. This means they can be paid directly through your charter, costing you zero out-of-pocket.

(Marian Reflection) Why “Cedars”? A Symbol of Strength and Holiness
The name Cedars Classical Co-Op is not just poetic — it’s deeply theological.
1. The Temple was built of cedar.
Scripture tells us that Solomon’s Temple — the dwelling place of God’s presence — was built with the finest cedars of Lebanon (1 Kings 6). These trees were valued for their beauty, strength, and incorruptibility.
2. Mary is the true living Temple of God.
The Church Fathers called Mary the Ark of the New Covenant, because she carried within her womb the very presence of God — Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh.
-
St. Athanasius wrote: “You are the Ark… containing the true manna, the bread from heaven.”
-
The Catechism affirms Mary as “the dwelling of God with men.”
Just as the Temple housed the Ark, Mary’s very body became the holy dwelling place of God Himself.
3. The connection is clear.
If the Temple — God’s dwelling — was built of cedar…
And if Mary is the Temple of the New Covenant…
Then the cedar is a fitting symbol of Mary herself — strong, pure, enduring, and chosen to house the Divine.
Sirach 24 even applies the image of the cedar to the Seat of Wisdom: “I grew tall like a cedar in Lebanon,” a title the Church has long applied to Our Lady.
4. Through the Eucharist, we become living temples.
When we receive Jesus in Holy Communion, we become tabernacles ourselves — living temples where Christ truly dwells. St. Paul reminds us: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Cor 3:16).
If the ancient temples were built of cedar, and if Mary — the perfect temple — is symbolized by the cedar, then each of us, with Christ within, is called to be a strong, incorruptible “cedar” in this world.
Rooted in Faith. Growing in Community.
We chose the cedar tree as our symbol because we are all called to be walking tabernacles of the Lord... Temples of the Holy Spirit! The Cedar represents Our Blessed Mother as the House of God, but also for her strength in faith and beauty in God’s design. Like the cedar, our community is being planted in rich soil — the Catholic faith — and is growing quickly under the care of the Holy Spirit.
Let each of us emulate our Blessed Mother's lead in saying YES to God’s divine will in all things! Each and every one of us are called to be Cedars among us!
Holy Mary, Our Hope, Seat of Wisdom - PRAY FOR US!
